Dear Heads of Service:

We are pleased to announce that the Fire Scene Rehabilitation Committee has completed its task of devising physical assessment and operational guidelines. These are to be used in evaluating firefighters' well-being and managing appropriateness to return to duty at physically demanding incidents. These guidelines were established in consultation with the Zone Meeting Group of fire chiefs from Falls Village, North Canaan, Cornwall, Sharon, and Norfolk. We utilized NFPA criteria and preliminary work by a NY EMT/firefighter with a special interest in this field.

While each fire unit and squad may wish to make slight adjustments to the document, we ask that you adopt this guideline, so that in mutual aid situations we can be working in a coordinated fashion. Please let us know when your service adopts the rehabilitation guideline.
